Throughout the year, AG Bell hosts a number of college-aged interns who become familiar with how nonprofits work, and how AG Bell specifically works. They help out in a number of departments and functions, and meet our members. During the summer, they also assist with our LOFT program attendees, many who are not much younger in age than they are. The interns always have memorable experiences which they share with Volta Voices after they leave. Here are some of their stories.

Being an intern at AG Bell, I was warmly welcomed and supported by our staff members. I learned a lot not only about administrative tasks, but also about each of the child who is deaf or hard of hearing. I learned about their struggle, how they overcome difficulties, and how some of them have even advocated for their community. While volunteering in LOFT, I was so happy to see how everyone was enjoying their time in their community, sharing their journey, and participating in fun and meaningful activities. I really enjoyed my experience in AG Bell.

What surprised me the most about AG Bell is how much of a difference and impact the organization has on so many different families across the country. As an intern who focused on work around the scholarship programs, I got to see firsthand how much AG Bell affects different families on multiple levels, including providing aid and support for these youth to succeed in school and in their daily lives. I also loved getting to learn about the organization and how it is so unique compared to others. This is because of how personal the organization is for everyone who enters it.

A lo largo del año, AG Bell acoge a varios becarios universitarios que se familiarizan con el funcionamiento de las organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro y, en concreto, con el de AG Bell. Colaboran en diversos departamentos y funciones, y conocen a nuestros afiliados. Durante el verano, también prestan ayuda a los asistentes a nuestro programa LOFT, dándose la circunstancia de que un gran número no son mucho más jóvenes que ellos. Los becarios siempre viven experiencias memorables que comparten con Voces de Volta cuando finalizan las prácticas.

Como becaria en AG Bell, recibí una calurosa bienvenida y el apoyo de los miembros de nuestro personal. Aprendí mucho, no solo sobre tareas administrativas, sino también sobre cada uno de los niños con sordera o hipoacusia. Conocí sus dificultades y cómo las superan, y cómo algunos de ellos incluso abogan en favor de su comunidad. Mientras trabajaba como voluntaria en LOFT, me alegraba ver cómo todo el mundo disfrutaba del tiempo compartido en la comunidad, hablando de su trayectoria y participando en actividades divertidas y llenas de sentido. Lo cierto es que he disfrutado mucho la experiencia en AG Bell.

Lo que más me sorprendió de AG Bell es la gran diferencia y repercusión que la organización tiene para tantas familias de todo el país. Como becaria centrada en el trabajo relacionado con los programas de becas, pude conocer de primera mano hasta qué punto AG Bell ejerce un impacto sobre distintas familias en múltiples niveles, incluida la prestación de ayuda y apoyo para que estos jóvenes tengan éxito en los estudios y en su vida cotidiana. También me encantó conocer la organización y su carácter único en comparación con otras organizaciones. Se debe al carácter personal que adquiere para todas las personas que se incorporan a ella.
